There’s something extra satisfying about photographing food right where it’s made — and our recent shoot at Croots Farm Shop was a perfect example. Surrounded by the rolling Derbyshire hills (and a few curious Shire horses in the neighbouring fields), it’s not exactly a bad office for the day.
Croots is a proudly family-run farm shop with a big heart for local suppliers and seriously good food. So, when they asked us to capture their new Christmas menu, we knew we were in for a festive treat. Think authentic flavours, countryside charm and plenty of seasonal sparkle — exactly the kind of project we love to get stuck into.
The Brief
Croots had developed new dishes for their Christmas menu, and the imagery needed to:
- Showcase the quality and detail of each dish
- Capture a warm, festive feel
- Reflect the farm shop’s rustic yet refined brand
- Work across both the printed Christmas brochure and a digital e-shot
The shoot would take place on location at the farm, working alongside the chef throughout the day as each dish was freshly prepared.
Food photography at this level is all about timing. Dishes were styled and photographed at their peak — sauces freshly poured, steam rising, garnishes placed with precision. We worked efficiently between preparation and plating to ensure each dish looked as exceptional on camera as it tastes in real life.
